Close Reading Gaps. Unlock Student Genius.

The ReadMix is an evidence-based literacy intervention for middle and high school students.

Confident, engaged, thriving student

Without the right intervention,
struggling readers don't catch up.
They fall further behind.

33%
In 2024, 33% of 8th graders and 32% of 12th graders nationwide scored "below basic" in reading — and struggle to understand grade-level text. Source: NAEP / Nation's Report Card, 2024
74%
Students reading below grade level fail to narrow the achievement gap over time. Reading gaps that appear in elementary school widen each year into high school, with struggling readers making little to no progress compared to their peers. Students who don't read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school — directly impacting graduation rates and school performance metrics. Source: Annie E. Casey Foundation, 2011

How It Works

01
Deep Assessment
We diagnose the root cause of reading struggles by assessing foundational skills like phonological awareness and phonics, not just vocabulary and comprehension.
02
Learning Plan
Based on the assessment, we build a personalized roadmap — targeted word lists and decodable passages that close each student's specific skill gaps.
03
Instruction
We deliver student-led, video-guided structured literacy instruction — with exercises that drive measurable growth.

Why It Works

Science of Reading
Grounded in How the Brain Learns to Read
Aligned with the Science of Reading, we use the Orton-Gillingham approach to make instruction accessible to students with specific learning differences. This approach supports the one in five students with dyslexia who struggle the most.
Youth Culture Pedagogy
Teens Who Feel Seen Actually Learn
Youth culture is the center of the curriculum. When students see their language, identities, and interests reflected in the material, they’re not just engaged, they’re invested. That ownership transforms how they show up to learn.

A record-breaker who almost never learned to read.

Before The ReadMix was a curriculum, it was a way for a functionally illiterate high school kid to play with words and escape the boredom of not being able to access grade level text. This personal breakthrough became the blueprint for a literacy program built for students who learn differently, love creativity, and deserve lessons that meet them where they are.
